iBall Instruments® presents the BloodhoundTM
Real-Time Gas Detection & Chromatograph System
A complete portable mud logging system.

Now you can view real-time data at your home, office, or on the road AS IF YOU WERE THERE!

The Bloodhound Gas Detection and Chromatograph System developed and manufactured by Ball Instruments LLC provides the best rugged and accurate detection system available, and provides secure access via the Internet in real- time to waterfall charts, chromatograph readings, O2, CO2 and H2S data anywhere in the world.

  • Training Classes

FIRST AND THIRD FRIDAY OF THE MONTH: The first half of the class is training with the latest gas charting software.  The second half of the class is   training of repair, maintenance, upkeep, and overhauling of the Bloodhound system.  Please contact Myron Butler for details on where and when to attend this free training.  Large gatherings can be held at your facility, small classes can be held here locally at McLoud or Edmond Oklahoma.

  • History

Over the last three decades little has been done in the area of gas detection and mud logging methodology. While it is true that computers and application specific software has been developed and deployed to create the final logs, the basic methods and techniques for detecting the presence of methane has been limited to hot-wire and equivalent catalytic technology.

  • 21st Century Alternative

The Bloodhound System provides real-time gas detection utilizing the latest infrared and electrochemical sensors from e2v Technologies and a new digital signal processing system to bring a new level of robust equipment with accuracy heretofore unknown in the oil and gas exploration industry. The real-time data gathered at the well site can be viewed anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.  Further, the system is portable and may be placed in a traditional mud logging trailer or placed in the doghouse.

  • Total System Design

The Bloodhound’s detection and signal processing systems are incorporated in an engineered resin case that is nearly indestructible. Not much larger than a traditional briefcase and weighing in under 24 pounds, it is easily transported and installs in just minutes. An intelligent power management system using a precision and robust switching power supply handles dirty rig power with ease. The power supply will handle wild voltage fluctuations between 90 and 260 Volts AC with frequency between 45 and 70 HZ.  This allows the Bloodhound to be used world wide.

  • Data Integrity

Data integrity and rugged backup systems is what the Bloodhound System is all about . While the Bloodhound’s proprietary power supply shields the electronics from wild fluctuations of rig power, data integrity is provided by three independent data storage locations. With one of them being up to 4 GB of data storage on a removable USB key, the user can take the data back to the office or home making the data safe, secure, and portable.

  • The Human Interface

All Bloodhound equipment and software, including the web page viewing, is auto-ranging.  No more concerns about dilution, range setting, or missing a large gas show. All Bloodhound Systems can monitor gasses from 0 Gas Units to 10,000 Gas Units (pure Methane) on the fly while maintaining very high resolution monitoring.  The iBall Gas Charting software provides for zooming in and out while looking at the data.  No more getting out the magnifying glass to look at printed charts.

  • Radical New Extraction System

Sample extraction is years ahead in design.  With our new lightweight cavitation system equipped with aluminum brackets that can break down into multiple pieces, the samples are extracted under cavitation instead of agitation.   Lightweight high power 12 VDC permanent magnet DC motors are used to do the work and because of the low voltage and isolated nature of the Cavitator, electrical shock is a thing of the past

  • Safety and Temperature Extremes

All Bloodhound Systems are equipped with automatic sample flow control, vacuum control, and a precision monitoring system to insure that all parameters are maintained. The Bloodhound will issue an alarm if preset levels are reached or exceeded. These alarms are visible and audible at the Bloodhound and can be observed anywhere in the world on the Internet. On the go?  iBall Instruments personnel can set the server system up to alert your cell phone via text message.

  • Remote Support and Diagnostics

iBall Instruments maintains a laboratory in McLoud, Oklahoma equipped with dedicated file servers for each Bloodhound™  which generate the web pages that are viewable over the Internet.  The staff at the laboratory, using proprietary technology, can monitor each trailer-based system for integrity. Remote diagnostics can be performed to analyze most any problem that may occur. Not only can most failures be diagnosed remotely, but many can be corrected in minutes from the lab. Technical support staff is available 24/7.  On occasion, technicians here at the lab notify the geologist of problems and pending problems, thus precluding errors in the information gathering process.

One of the most innovative features of the iBall system is remote repair.  All Bloodhound™ systems have backup detector elements that in the rare event of detector element failure, the secondary elements are switched in.  We realize how important and expensive it is drilling for natural resources.  It only makes sense to have backups where needed for little or no interruption of services.

If there a pump failure pending, changing of the a vacuum pump or chromatograph pump takes only a minute.  We can walk you though it over the phone.  All wiring is low voltage and color coded.  All hoses are quick connect.

All suggestions made to improve our product or products are taken seriously. If they are software related and are practical to implement, the software changes or improvements can be downloaded to the Bloodhound™ System via the Internet, remotely upgrading the equipment without returning the Bloodhound™ to iBall Instruments LLC.

COMPLETE BLOODHOUND™ SYSTEM:

The Bloodhound™ is composed of non-dispersive infrared detectors, electrochemical sensors, a proprietary chromatograph, medical grade vacuum pumps, aircraft quality flow meters, an uninterruptible power system, wireless data modem, Ethernet card and the iBall Instruments digital processing system Brain board housed in a rugged plastic Pelican case.

The iBall Instruments Bloodhound™ wireless gas detection equipment has the capability to detect from 0 to 10,000 Gas units instantly. This translates from 0 to 100% pure methane concentrations.  Calibration is performed using National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable calibration gasses.
Calibration points include, 2.5%, and 100% pure methane. Complete immunity to saturation in the presence high concentrations of both light and heavy hydrocarbon gasses precludes the necessity of re-calibration or zero referencing.
The briefcase-sized design also has the ability to pull the sample apart using our proprietary integrated gas chromatograph. This chromatograph has been shown to pull the sample apart in about five (5) minutes and show readings in Methane, Ethane, Propane, and Butane. Automatic sample size is selected based on the detected gas units so that the chromatograph cannot experience column saturation.
Further, the iBall Instruments Bloodhound™ can be ordered with the additional ability to detect from 0 to 500 parts per million of Hydrogen Sulfide within the extracted sample gases.
This iBall Bloodhound™ contains its own universal power supply that can accept 90 to 280 VAC input with a frequency tolerance of 48 to 65 Hz. It is lightning, surge, and power spike hardened. If rig power fails, the Bloodhound™ has its own internal battery system to keep it alive for over 2 hours on a new battery.
The revolutionary integrated equipment hardened Brain Board control system allows the iBall Instruments Bloodhound™ to monitor and control all vacuum levels and flow rates using internal powerful state of the art flow meter, vacuum pumps and pressure sensors. Water and contamination from outside sources is minimized using internal chambering.
Ease of use is assured with only 4 buttons to learn. Alarms are automatic and easy to read and show many things including low flow, high flow, and blocked sample line or some other internal fault.

CAVITATOR EXTRACTOR:

The typical sample extractor employed today use 120/240 volt AC induction motors that are tied into the drilling rigs’ AC power source. The iBall Instruments Cavitator uses low-voltage 12 or 24 volt Direct Current from an AC to DC power supply. The standard supply is fully electrically isolated and the low-voltage eliminates the shock hazard to rig personnel. This accomplishes two things that make the system superior to any AC powered device. First, it permits the use of lightweight low-voltage electrical cable  to the Cavitator and allows the use of lightweight DC motors.  If using the Bloodhound system, power comes from the side of the instrument, eliminating the need for a separate power supply.

RIG POWER SOLUTIONS:
All equipment that is hooked up to drilling rig power is subject to the problematic power that comes from it.  Most power problems come in sometimes wild voltage and frequency fluctuations.  These fluctuations cause equipment damage and problems.  Placing a common UPS (Uninterruptible Power System) on these computers and equipment is not a solution because the UPS constantly switches over to battery and never gives it time to charge ending up with a dead battery and a useless UPS.  iBall Instruments has built a power solution that allows for common computers and equipment to be immune to such power problems.
What we have done is taken a very powerful AC inverter and modified it by adding a critical timing and voltage monitoring circuit and connecting it to the inverting electronics.  This allows the inverter to now monitor the battery voltage and AC power so that all power issues from dirty rig power simply can not get to your equipment and will ignore rig power interruptions.

VACUUM CANISTER PROTECTION:
Guardian™ medical grade disposable or reusable hard canisters feature rigid blue lids with an automatic water full shutoff valve to help prevent contamination of regulators or equipment. Its 90° adapters allow tubing to connect at right angles to help prevent kinking and impeded sample flow. The locking lid allows for a tight seal and leak free operation.  Wall hangers and anti-tip mounts are available.

AIR DRILLING ATTACHMENT:
We have designed an air drilling attachment that allows for consistent sampling of air drilling operations.  This allows the user to attach the Bloodhound  system and allow it to draw from the air drilling exhaust pipe with minimal particulate contamination.  Just connect this unit to a gate valve connected to the high pressure exhaust.  Below is a link to the engineering drawing and a 3D rendering that you can manipulate with your computer.  Supplies are easy to get from Lowes or any other hardware store.

Purchase

Originally our business plan was to rent the Bloodhounds™ and not sell the units.  This would permit us to constantly upgrade and maintain the Bloodhound™ equipment and software to its highest level and track the history of each unit and logging and correcting any problems along the way.  Further, as new technology is introduced iBall Instruments LLC would have the ability to upgrade all the equipment to any new standards.

After receiving inquiries and orders from Europe, and receiving requests outside the Oklahoma-Texas area it became obvious that it would not be practical to service rentals over great distances. Therefore, we changed our original plan and began selling the Bloodhound™ system both nationally and internationally.

Because of constant fluxuations in exchange rates and the cost of raw materials and sensors that go into the systems that we build, we are unable to publish Bloodhound™ equipment prices.

Please give Myron Butler a call.  He would be very pleased to talk to you about your needs and provide you with a quote on the Bloodhound™, our proprietary Cavitator system and all the peripherals required to set the system up at a drill site.
